Amazing Ngapali Resort, a well-known hotel in the Arakan State beach town of Ngapali, is under lockdown after a guest tested positive for COVID-19.
The guest from Yangon tested positive for the virus before his return flight to the commercial capital on January 7, said U Thaung Tun, a resident of Ngapali town in Thandwe Township.
“He stayed at the hotel for a few days. His test before his flight from Yangon to Sittwe tested negative, but the test before his return flight showed positive,” he said.
He urged people to adhere to COVID-19 preventive regulations as hotels in Thandwe Township reopen with the pandemic still a widespread concern.
U Kyaw San Kyaw, the administrator of Thandwe Township, confirmed that Amazing Ngapali Resort was under lockdown due to a guest’s coronavirus-positive test.
According to the Ministry of Health and Sports, there were 128,772 cases of COVID-19 and 2,799 resultant deaths in Myanmar as of Thursday evening, and 4,065 cases and 36 deaths in Arakan State.
A new, more contagious strain of coronavirus has been reported in at least 33 countries, but not yet Myanmar.
