Arakan State still can’t resume border trade
Many micro, small and medium enterprises in Arakan and Chin states and Magwe Region were seriously affected by Cyclone Mocha, and are struggling to recover.

Businesses in Arakan State are still struggling to resume border trade in the aftermath of Cyclone Mocha, according to officials of border trade associations.
Chairman of Maungdaw border trade association U Aung San Thein said: “[Businesses] have no products to export. And prices are too high to buy and export. Trade has declined by almost 75 percent.”
Some warehouses were damaged by the cyclone, while other businesses are experiencing difficulties running their offices. Roofs of seven warehouses were blown off in a Sittwe border trade camp, and around 20 percent of stock was damaged in the storm.
Border trade halted one week before the storm, it will take time to resume border trade considering the extent of damage caused by the storm, said trader U Nyi Nyi from Sittwe border trade camp.
“We can’t estimate how long it will take until border trade can resume,” said U Nyi Nyi.
Myanmar exports marine products, agricultural implements and basic foodstuffs to Bangladesh through Maungdaw and Sittwe.
