MRF to supply rice to cyclone-hit Arakan State townships
The Myanmar Rice Federation (MRF) will supply 3,000 tonnes of rice from its rice reserve for townships in Arakan State hit by Cyclone Mocha.

The Myanmar Rice Federation (MRF) will supply 3,000 tonnes of rice from its rice reserve for townships in Arakan State hit by Cyclone Mocha.
Under the arrangement of the Arakan State Administration Council, the 3,000 tonnes will be distributed to storm-hit areas in Arakan State.
“A vessel carrying rice left Botahtaung Jetty [in Yangon] yesterday. We are tasked with collecting reserve rice, and the rest will be taken care of by the state government. A total of 3,000 tonnes of rice are earmarked for Rakhine [Arakan State],” said secretary U Myint Lwin of the MRF.
There is no need to worry as the federation has around 200,000 tonnes of rice reserve in Yangon and Mandalay to supply the storm-hit areas including Arakan State, he added.
The Myanmar Rice Millers Association will also donate 10 million kyats per township for 10 townships in Arakan State, as well as 5,000 baskets of paddy seeds per 500 acres of fields. Among the townships are Sittwe, Ponnagyun, Maungdaw, Buthidaung, Rathedaung, Mrauk-U, Kyauktaw, Minbya, Pauktaw and Myebon.
“I donated cash. The paddy seeds arrived today. They should arrive [in Arakan State] in two or three days,” said U Kyaw Win, chairman of the Myanmar Rice Millers Association.
