Two men arrested in Gwa Twsp over alleged sexual assault of three-year-old child

The Department of Law Enforcement and Public Security (DLEPS) under the United League of Arakan (ULA) has arrested two men for allegedly sexually assaulting a three-year-old child in Yahaiphyar Village, Gwa Township, Arakan State.

On September 20, while the child's mother was away, two intoxicated male residents of the same village allegedly sexually assaulted the child, according to local sources.

The mother reported the incident to the local DLEPS office in Gwa Township on September 21.

DLEPS officials identified the suspects as 55-year-old U Khin Maung Htay and 36-year-old Ko Sithu Win, both residents of Yahaiphyar Village.

Both suspects are currently in DLEPS custody and are undergoing interrogation. They have been charged under Section 376 of the Penal Code for rape.

DLEPS guidelines state that anyone in Arakan State who commits rape against a female under the age of 12 faces life imprisonment or 20 years in prison under Section 376 (3) of the Penal Code.

Rape cases continue to occur across areas under Arakan Army control, prompting calls from local communities for effective judicial enforcement and greater transparency in legal proceedings.

Women's rights activists have also emphasized the urgent need for comprehensive psychological, physical, and protective support for survivors of sexual violence.
