A mobile phone shop owner in Manaung, Arakan State, has reportedly been charged with incitement under Section 505(a) of the Penal Code.
The accused has been identified as U Sithu aka Bo Phyu, a 40-year-old man from Myothit Ward in Manaung. He was taken from his home by police on the morning of September 19, locals said.
“About six policemen from the local police station and Special Branch raided his [U Sithu’s] mobile phone shop and took him for questioning,” said a resident of Manaung who did not want to be named for security reasons.
U Sithu runs a mobile phone shop at his home and he is currently held at Manaung’s Myoma Police Station.
“I think he was arrested over a post on Facebook. He was allowed to meet his wife yesterday. I don’t know what his condition is today,” said another Manaung resident.
Specifics about U Sithu’s arrest are currently unknown and DMG continues to attempt to contact his family members regarding the matter.
U Sithu is a native of Yangon and has been living in Manaung with his wife, a school teacher, and three children for more than 20 years, according to local residents.
