ANP youth leader among four Arakanese men detained in Yangon

A youth leader of the Arakan National Party (ANP) and three other Arakanese men were reportedly abducted from a home in Yangon by junta soldiers on the night of May 31.
Ko Khin Win Maung aka Ko Gambarri, 34, and the other three were taken by the regime soldiers from a home in Yangon’s Hlaingthayar Township.
“We heard the news that he [Ko Khin Win Maung] and three Arakanese young men were arrested by the regime in Yangon on May 31. We are still investigating the details of their arrest,” said U Tha Tun Hla, chairman of the ANP.
Local people in Arakan State have been fleeing to areas held by the AA and Yangon due to the latest fighting and fears of escalating hostilities in Myanmar’s westernmost state. Ko Gambarri had reportedly travelled to Yangon for safety reasons since renewed conflict in Arakan State began in November.
“The news is true that he was arrested on May 31. We cannot phone him and his Facebook account is deactivated. We are still investigating where he is being held,” said a source close to Ko Gambarri.
Ko Gambarri is a former leader of the ANP’s youth wing and is widely known as a social activist.
