Manaung Twsp villagers spared eviction after vowing allegiance to junta
Junta soldiers came again on Tuesday and told the residents that they could stay if they signed a document that they would not oppose the military regime.

Facing eviction by the junta, residents in Ngatpyawtaw and Anaukpar wards of Thitpone Village, in Arakan State’s Manaung Township, have been allowed to stay in a reversal that is reportedly on condition that they remain loyal to the regime.
Approximately 20 soldiers came to Thitpone Village on April 18, and ordered nearly 400 households in Ngatpyawtaw and Anaukpar wards to relocate by April 25 to Panchan and Phetyar villages, about 10 miles north of Thitpone Village, for allegedly supporting the Arakkha Army (AA).
Junta soldiers came again on Tuesday and told the residents that they could stay if they signed a document that they would not oppose the military regime.
“We had to sign a document that we would not oppose them in the future. We still don’t have trust in them,” said a resident of Thitpone Village.
Some villagers left following the junta’s eviction order, selling off their livestock.
“We sold off our chickens and pigs after we were evicted. We have nothing left to make a living now,” said a Thitpone Village resident.
Though there is still no fighting in Manaung Township, military tensions are running high in the area, and the regime has warned locals to avoid the AA.
