A cache of explosive remnants of war (ERW) were discovered inside seven boxes in Maungdaw town, Arakan State, on the afternoon of October 7.

A cache of explosive remnants of war (ERW) were discovered inside seven boxes in Maungdaw town, Arakan State, on the afternoon of October 7.
The boxes were found during construction work on a road in Maungdaw’s Three Mile ward and contained more than 100 bombs, according to U Shwe Maung, the Four Mile ward administrator.
“Some people said they are bombs used in air strikes. Some said they are RPG [rocket-propelled grenade] shells. I do not know well,” he told DMG.
Residents have speculated that they are remnants of war from World War II.
DMG phoned U Kan Tun Aung, the Maungdaw Township administrator, seeking comment on the discovery of the remnants of war, but he could not be reached despite several attempts.
The Myanmar military has taken possession of the explosives for the moment.
