A fishing boat carrying six Bangladeshis was found stranded on a beach in Kyaukphyu’s Asoeya ward on Tuesday morning, with police detaining the men aboard.

A fishing boat carrying six Bangladeshis was found stranded on a beach in Kyaukphyu’s Asoeya ward on Tuesday morning, with police detaining the men aboard.
The detainees are reportedly from Teknaf, Bangladesh, and the Myanmar Red Cross Society and Kyaukphyu Public Health Department tested them for Covid-19, according to U Kyaw Aye Than of the township Red Cross Society.
“As soon as they arrived, the Red Cross Society and the Public Health Department jointly provided relief support for them and tested for Covid-19,” he told DMG. “All are negative for coronavirus.”
The men are being held at the Kyaukphyu Myoma police station, where they are undergoing questioning and receiving medical treatment, he added.
According to Arakan Daily News, the fishing vessel’s engine malfunctioned and those on board drifted to the Kyaukphyu beach where they were discovered and taken into custody.
DMG phoned Kyaukphyu Myoma police station for more details, but the individual who answered said the station head was not available to comment.
