A junta convoy transporting reinforcements and ammunition to the Nat Yay Kan strategic hilltop base on the Ann-Padan Road near the Magway-Arakan border was ambushed, with military sources reporting casualties including officers.
On March 23, the Arakan Army (AA) and allied forces intercepted the convoy, which had departed from the junta’s No. 14 Defence Equipment Factory in Ngaphe Township and Artillery Battalion No. 905 in Padan, as it attempted to reach the hilltop base via the old Ann-Padan Road.
“The regime used four civilian vehicles on March 23 along the old road to transport ammunition and reinforcements. The Arakan Army and allied forces intercepted and destroyed the convoy, resulting in many casualties, including officers. A significant amount of weapons and ammunition was also seized,” a military source said.
According to military sources, the convoy carried around 20 personnel, including officers and soldiers, along with military supplies.
Sources added that the regime has been repeatedly attempting to reinforce the Nat Yay Kan hilltop base. Due to difficulties using standard military vehicles, it has increasingly relied on civilian vehicles for transport.
The regime is reportedly attempting to reinforce the base with two columns of more than 400 troops but continues to face intense clashes as the Arakan Army and allied forces carry out interceptive attacks.
Due to the blockade imposed by Arakan Army led forces, junta troops remain trapped inside the base. While the regime has been conducting airdrops to supply food, many of these deliveries are reportedly intercepted.
“The regime frequently airdrops food to troops at the Nat Yay Kan hilltop base, but most supplies are seized by revolutionary forces. The base is completely encircled, and reinforcements are effectively blocked,” said a source familiar with the situation.
Military sources also said the regime is using Y-12 and Y-8 aircraft, as well as Czech-made L-410 aircraft, to deliver supplies by air.
The Arakan Army and allied forces have been attacking the Nat Yay Kan hilltop base since early 2025, capturing most surrounding outposts and maintaining a tight blockade on the strategic position.
