Rights group reports 23 women and girls killed by regime this month
Twenty-three women and girls died at the hands of Myanmar’s military regime during the period from June 1 to 18, the Assistance Association for Political Prisoners (AAPP) said in a report on Wednesday.

Twenty-three women and girls died at the hands of Myanmar’s military regime during the period from June 1 to 18, the Assistance Association for Political Prisoners (AAPP) said in a report on Wednesday.
Among the victims, including a 1-year-old girl, four were under the age of 18 and six were over the age of 60, the report said, adding that most of the deaths were caused by artillery attacks.
The 1-year-old and a 14-year-old girl were killed after a junta artillery regiment based in Theinzayat fired mortar shells into Sitkwin Village in Kyaikto Township, Mon State, at around 1 p.m. on June 14 without any fighting in the area.
Five people including two women were reportedly killed in a junta airstrike on Kanseik Village on Pantin Island in the west of Taungup Township, Arakan State, on the morning of June 18.
Civilian casualties continue to rise daily due to regime airstrikes and artillery attacks on residential areas across Myanmar.
