A woman was killed and at least five civilians, including two children, were injured after Myanmar's military regime carried out an airstrike on villages in Arakan Army-controlled Buthidaung Township on July 3, according to local residents.
The attack took place at around 12 p.m. on July 3, when three fighter jets and one Y-12 aircraft dropped more than 40 bombs on the vicinity of Warnetyone Village and nearby areas.
"One person was killed and no fewer than five others were injured in yesterday's bombing. Some of the injured are in critical condition. We still do not know what will happen next," a Buthidaung resident told DMG.
The victim was identified as 64-year-old Daw Yaw Thar May from Taragu Village.
Those injured were identified as three-year-olds Maung Nay Zaw Lin and Maung Aung Aung Naing, 18-year-old Ma Sandar May, 23-year-old Ko Maung Hla Kyaw, all from Taragu Village, and 46-year-old U Kyaw Thar from Sinphyutaung Village.
Local residents said all five sustained serious injuries and are receiving emergency medical treatment.
The latest strike follows a series of daily air attacks carried out by the regime in Buthidaung and Maungdaw townships along the Myanmar-Bangladesh border over the past week.
"Lately, they have been bombing Buthidaung and Maungdaw almost every day. There has hardly been a day without an airstrike. Previously, attacks here were less frequent, but now people in both urban and rural areas are living in constant fear. Even shops have to close whenever fighter jets appear overhead," another Buthidaung resident said.
On July 3, DMG reported that the regime had launched airstrikes on the vicinity of Warnetyone Village using three fighter jets. At the time, damage and casualties could not be independently confirmed.
On July 1, another airstrike targeted Kyetmauktaung Muslim village near the former Military Operations Command No. 15 (MOC-15) headquarters in Buthidaung Township, injuring a 50-year-old man and two Muslim children, while destroying nearly 10 houses.
A day later, on July 2, regime aircraft bombed a prisoner of war detention camp near the former Border Guard Force Battalion No. 7 (BGF-7) base in Kyeinchaung Village, Maungdaw Township, killing four prisoners of war, including a captain.
The regime also dropped more than 10 bombs near the Maungdaw town entrance, the 3-Mile junction, and the former Border Guard Force Battalion No. 5 (BGF-5) base on July 1.
