Arakan Army seizes key military supply base in Ann Twsp

The Arakan Army (AA) seized a junta supply base in Ann Township, Arakan State, where the military’s Western Command headquarters is located, on March 27, according to local people.

The AA took control of a military supply base about one mile from the military’s Light Infantry Battalion (LIB) No. 372 near Gallaung Village in Ann Township after a three-day offensive.

“The AA began an assault on the military supply base on March 25 and seized it two days later. The junta dropped bombs during the fighting,” said a local resident.

Fierce fighting is still reported near Gallaung Village, with local people hearing the sounds of heavy weapons and small arms fire, said an Ann Township resident.

“We have been hearing the sounds of heavy weapons and small arms fire since the morning. The fighting seems to be fierce,” he added.

Fierce fighting followed after the AA began assaults on multiple junta bases and military camps in Ann Township on March 24.

Ann Township is home to the military’s LIB Nos. 371, 372, and 373, engineering battalions, medical corps and supply and transport battalions.

The AA has announced that the ethnic armed group is attacking military camps in Arakan State one after another, day after day. 

The AA has seized large swaths of territory in Rathedaung, Pauktaw, Ponnagyun, Kyauktaw, Mrauk-U, Minbya, Myebon and Ramree townships, as well as in neighbouring Paletwa Township, Chin State, since launching an offensive in November of last year.
