A junta airstrike on Alekyun Village, part of Arakan State’s Kyauktaw Township, killed four people, including a Buddhist monk, and wounded 5 others on Monday morning, according to local people.
U Zagara, a Buddhist monk, U Ni Tun Oo in his 60s, Daw Ma Dway in her 80s and U Maung Han, 33, were killed, and five people were injured, after two junta jet fighters dropped bombs on the village twice.
“Two junta jet fighters dropped bombs on the village two times in the morning, killing four people including a Buddhist monk, and injuring five others. At the moment, that is all we know,” said a resident of Alekyun Village.
A junta airstrike on Alekyun Village, part of Arakan State’s Kyauktaw Township, at about 3 p.m. on January 3 killed four people and injured five others, including a 3-month-old child.
Local people in Kyauktaw town, which is held by the Arakkha Army (AA), are afraid of junta airstrikes and are concerned for their safety.
“It has been several months since the military withdrew from Kyauktaw. There is no possibility of fighting in Kyauktaw. The regime deliberately attacks civilians who are afraid of the junta airstrikes. I want the international community to take effective action against the regime, which is targeting civilians,” said a local man in Alekyun Village.
The military regime, which has faced defeat after military defeat in Arakan State, is targeting towns and villages, causing civilian casualties to rise steadily in recent months.
A civilian was killed and five others were severely injured in a junta airstrike on Mintet Village, part of Arakan State’s Ann Township, at around 2 p.m. on May 4.
