FPNCC welcomes Chinese mediation in Myanmar’s affairs

The Federal Political Negotiation and Consultative Committee (FPNCC) issued a statement on Thursday welcoming and supporting China’s mediation to end internal conflicts in Myanmar.

The statement followed a two-day FPNCC working meeting from March 15-16 in Panghsang, Wa State.

Leaders of the United Wa State Army (UWSA), Shan State Progress Party (SSPP), Kachin Independence Army (KIA), National Democratic Alliance Army (NDAA), Ta’ang National Liberation Army (TNLA), Myanmar National Democratic Alliance Army (MNDAA) and Arakan Army (AA) attended the meeting.

The meeting followed FPNCC members’ meeting with Chinese special envoy to Myanmar Deng Xijun last month.

At this week’s meeting, FPNCC members exchanged information about their activities, shared their concerns, and deepened understanding, trust, cooperation, and friendship among the alliance, according to Thursday’s statement.

The meeting also discussed internal conflicts since the 2021 coup, and local and international affairs since the Covid-19 pandemic began, said the statement.

The FPNCC was established in Panghsang on April 19, 2017. The FPNCC has opted out of signing the Nationwide Ceasefire Agreement, and has instead adopted a policy to seek an alternative to solve political problems in Myanmar.

The chief of the Arakan Army (AA), Major-General Twan Mrat Naing, reportedly attended this week’s meeting in Panghsang.
