The military regime deployed a fleet of aircraft to drop dozens of bombs on at least three locations across Kyauktaw Township, Arakan State, during overnight air attacks.
The bombardment was carried out between 1:00 a.m. and after 3:00 a.m. on October 7 using jet fighters and Y-12 aircraft.
The air attack targeted areas near Military Operations Command 9 (MOC 9) near Kyauktaw Town, Light Infantry Battalion 376 positions and former cemetery grounds near Aungtawyoe Village, and areas near Kyaungpho Village, where more than 100 bombs were reportedly dropped.
“We sat crouched under our house the entire night,” a local woman living near one of the targeted areas said. “Warplanes kept circling directly overhead. First, a jet fighter dropped bombs. Then Y-12 aircraft returned four or five times to release more bombs. Each wave dropped more than 10 bombs at a time.”
The sudden midnight bombardment has left residents in neighboring villages in a state of severe shock and panic.
Junta forces have struck Kyauktaw Town and surrounding areas on five separate days within a 13-day period.
The military regime previously bombed Pyidawtha, Paikthel, and Winsu wards in Kyauktaw Town on September 25; the Indian Market and Kissapanadi Bridge on September 28; Thakyar Village across the river from Kyauktaw Town on September 30; areas near Chaungtu Village on October 5; and multiple targets during the latest attack on October 7.
“As Kyauktaw Township has been hit by continuous junta airstrikes in recent days, residents are terrified and afraid to sleep at night,” another Kyauktaw resident said. “Everyone is living in extreme fear.”
Persistent aerial bombardment across Kyauktaw Township has caused more than 100 civilian deaths and injuries to date, leaving local residents facing severe psychological trauma and physical insecurity.
On October 6, military jet fighters also bombarded the former Military Operations Command 5 (MOC 5) and former battalion bases near Taungup Town, causing two residents to die from sudden cardiac arrest due to shock and injuring another.
With the military conducting daily airstrikes across Arakan State, the United League of Arakan/Arakan Army (ULA/AA) has urged local residents to remain extremely vigilant regarding aerial threats.
