A local man was reportedly injured in a junta air attack on Mellatmaung Village, part of Arakan State's Ann Township, where fighting between the military and Arakkha Army (AA) is ongoing, on Friday.
A bomb dropped by a junta jet fighter landed and exploded in the compound of the village school, wounding U Oo Kyaw Hsan, a man in his 50s, on October 11.
"Almost all villagers have fled to safer locations, but he [U Oo Kyaw Hsan] remained in the village. He was injured in the regime airstrike and his condition is considered not life-threatening," said an Ann resident.
Hundreds of local people from Mellatmaung, Khamaungdaw and Kyeinchaung villages have been displaced by fighting since September, but some have remained in the villages.
The Arakkha Army (AA), meanwhile, continues to advance on the Myanmar military's Western Command headquarters based in Ann Township.
Fighting has escalated around Ywar Tharyar, Kyaung Phyu Kwin and Sintoe villages, near Light Infantry Battalion No. 373. The two sides reportedly clashed in the mountains near the Western Command headquarters for several hours on Thursday.
"We heard the sounds of drones, jet fighters, and heavy weapons and small arm fires since yesterday evening. Mortar shells fell and exploded within the compound of the Western Command," said a local resident.
Fighting between the military and AA began in Ann Township in May. The AA has since seized the Taw Hein Taung and Me Taung tactical commands, both considered crucial for the defence of the Western Command headquarters.
