Regime launches heavy airstrikes on villages near Nat Yay Kan tactical base

The military regime launched coordinated airstrikes involving multiple aircraft on villages near the besieged Nat Yay Kan tactical hilltop base in Ngaphe Township, Magway Region.

Despite a relative lull in recent ground fighting around Nat Yay Kan, three fighter jets and two Y-12 aircraft bombed Lai Village and surrounding areas near the base from 10 p.m. to midnight on August 2.

"Jets and Y-12 aircraft took turns bombing Lai Village on the Arakan mountain range for about two hours. A large number of bombs were dropped, but the exact extent of casualties and damage is not yet known," said a frontline military source.

The junta has repeatedly used airstrikes and heavy artillery in attempts to reinforce the encircled Nat Yay Kan base.

However, joint forces led by the Arakan Army intercepted advancing junta columns, forcing them to retreat before the regime launched airstrikes on villages along the Arakan mountain range.

Ground sources said the regime dropped at least 50 bombs during the August 2 bombardment, raising concerns over a possible renewed ground offensive.

"Nearly 50 bombs were dropped yesterday. It appears the airstrikes were intended to support advancing ground troops, as the regime has used similar tactics before. However, advancing into this area will not be easy for them," said a person familiar with the military situation.

Since July 24, junta forces have been deploying large troop reinforcements toward Nat Yay Kan, resulting in repeated clashes with the Arakan Army in late July.

The regime is currently attempting to advance along the old Arakan mountain range road from Artillery Battalion No. 905, based in Padan.

However, each time junta columns approach Gotegyi and Pazi villages, they have been intercepted and forced to retreat by revolutionary joint forces.

The Arakan Army and allied forces have captured nearly all outposts surrounding the Nat Yay Kan tactical hilltop base since early 2025, leaving the main base under complete siege.
