35 civilians killed, 84 injured by junta airstrikes in Arakan State, Paletwa in August: DMG tally

Junta airstrikes killed 35 civilians and injured 84 others across Arakan State and Paletwa Township in Chin State in August, areas controlled by the Arakan Army, according to data compiled by DMG.

By location, Thandwe Township had 19 deaths and 40 injuries, while Gwa Township reported eight deaths and nine injuries. Rathedaung Township recorded one injury, while Paletwa Township in Chin State saw eight deaths and 34 injuries.

Among those killed were 20 women and five children aged between one and 16 years old. Among the injured were 22 women and 12 children aged between seven and 13 years old.

The junta is making desperate efforts to launch ground offensives to recapture territory controlled by the Arakan Army. At the same time, the regime continues aerial bombardments against areas under Arakan Army control, driving up monthly civilian casualties.

In July, junta airstrikes in Arakan State similarly killed 22 civilians and injured 66 others.

Arakan Army military operations include counter-offensives in response to junta attacks in areas adjacent to Arakan State, including Ayeyarwady, Bago, and Magway regions.

In Arakan State, intense clashes continue in Kyaukphyu Township, while frequent firing incidents have also been reported in Sittwe Township.

The junta is currently attempting to enter Arakan State from Ayeyarwady Region through ground offensives, airstrikes, and naval operations targeting southern townships of Arakan State.
