Two education personnel from Thayetchaung Township, Tanintharyi Region, who had joined the anti-coup Civil Disobedience Movement (CDM), died of poor health while in hiding, the interim Thayetchaung Township Basic Education Board said.
Daw Thida San, a teacher from Pyin Phyu Gyi village’s Basic Education Middle School in Thayetchaung Township, died of stomach cancer on December 3 as she hid from potential arrest over her CDM affiliation, a family member told DMG.
“The teacher has been part of the CDM since the coup. She has strong convictions. And, her living condition was poor. She died while she was against them [the military regime], but we are proud of her,” the family member said.
Daw Aye Aye Wah, an office staffer at Oattu village’s Basic Education High School, died from Covid-19 on November 11.
A teacher and member of Tanintharyi Region Teachers’ Union expressed her condolences in the wake of Daw Aye Aye Wah’s death.
“I feel sad she died during her anti-military movement. We will be against the dictatorship until it ends,” she said.
The interim Thayetchaung Township Basic Education Board praised the two education personnel as CDM heroes who stood for justice.
There are 617 education personnel who have joined the CDM in Tanintharyi Region, according to the Tanintharyi Region Teachers’ Union.
