Arakan Army (AA) chief Major-General Twan Mrat Naing vowed to seize total control of Arakan State in his address marking the 15th anniversary of the ethnic armed group’s founding on Wednesday.
The AA will fight as fiercely and speedily as it can to drive all junta soldiers out of Arakan State, he said.
“The national revolt of our Arakanese people is not yet over. We must strengthen the momentum of our revolt and continue to fight as fiercely and speedily as possible to achieve our goal. Only then, we will be able to realise the dream of the entire Arakanese people,” Maj-Gen Twan Mrat Naing said.
Fighting has been raging in Arakan State for about five months. To date, the AA has seized Pauktaw, Ponnagyun, Rathedaung, Kyauktaw, Mrauk-U, Minbya, Myebon and Ramree townships in Arakan State and Paletwa Township in neighbouring Chin State.
The ethnic armed group is also continuing an onslaught against junta positions in Buthidaung, Maungdaw and Ann townships.
“In realising the Rakhita Dream of the AA, the Maj-Gen has said that the AA will secure tangible results for Arakanese people by 2025. So, the fighting will continue in Arakan State,” said an Arakanese politician.
AA allies including many revolutionary organisations congratulated the AA on its anniversary.
