Bangladesh refugee camp fire kills two, injures 19
Refugees said a 7-year-old child and a 64-year-old man were killed, and the injured were being treated at a clinic in the refugee camp.

A fire broke out at the Kutupalong refugee camp in Cox’s Bazar, Bangladesh, on the afternoon of December 24, killing two Muslim refugees, injuring 19 others and destroying a total of 660 homes, religious buildings and health clinics.
Refugees said a 7-year-old child and a 64-year-old man were killed, and the injured were being treated at a clinic in the refugee camp.
“The fire was caused by a short circuit in an office building and engulfed more than 600 homes and mosques in the refugee camp. Two people died. Some of the injured were seriously injured,” said a male refugee.
Firefighters were able to bring the blaze completely under control after two hours of effort.
A Muslim woman from the Kutupalong refugee camp said that the fire victims are currently in urgent need of food and shelter.
“Right now, the fire victims are living in houses that did not burn down,” she added.
The refugees fled to Bangladesh due to Myanmar military counterinsurgency operations following attacks by Arakan Rohingya Salvation Army (ARSA) militants in northern Arakan State in 2017.
